The Family Weekend

Another Family Weekend and Another August Second

Eight years ago our family got together for a summer weekend in the country. It's become an annual tradition that we observed over the last few days. This year's weekend was wonderful, with lots of swimming, walking, eating, playing games, and most of all, talking.

This was, as always, one of the highlights of my year. Something that impressed me especially this time was how, even though in the course of the year we are able to spend so little time all together, it still feels to me so easy and natural. It immediately takes me back to the years when the girls were growing up. It is a blessing to have a family who enjoy their shared time so much.

In just a couple of days it will be August second, the birthday of my father in 1917, and of Bev in 1953. I think of them both every day, but especially when I have everyone around me. We all owe our very existence and much of what we are to both of them.
