| We arrived back in Chicago on Monday. I had been away for three months, and Avi for just two weeks less. Because of the war, the last couple of weeks in Israel were stressful. Jerusalem was comparatively lightly targeted, but still, there were alarms several times a day, and since we had no safe room in our apartment we had to run to the nearby shelter. In addition, this was all happening almost at the end of our stay, and our original tickets home were canceled. Finding a new way to get out was not easy, but in the end we managed to get tickets on a plane going to Prague from Ben Gurion airport. Rather than immediately continuing on to Chicago, we decided to spend a few days relaxing in Prague, which turned out to be a great idea. Neither of us had ever been there before. It is a beautiful city, full of buildings that seem to be taken from a fairytale. We walked all over, and had an excellent conducted walking tour on the history of the city. Finally, we flew back to Chicago, where winter is just coming to an end. It’s still snowing, but it’s melting quickly, and the Passover preparations that we are already busy with are a sure sign that spring will soon be here. |
