 My Seventieth Birthday

My seventieth birthday was earlier this month. Avi and I took the train from Chicago to DC. We got a sleeping car compartment on a train that left at dinner time and arrived the next day at noon. When we woke in the morning we were in the midst of beautiful mountain scenery that continued much of the way to Washington.

Once there we spent a couple of days with Renana and Deena and her family, and then on Saturday and Sunday Tamar, Jesse, Adira, Reva, Joe and Jenny all arrived in town for the celebration.

We went mini-golfing (a favorite family activity) on Sunday, and then that evening we went to a restaurant called Zaytinya and had a delicious and festive meal. The next morning my old friends Richard and Erica also joined us for brunch at Deena and Andrew’s house. I had a wonderful time, and I feel sure that everyone else did, too.

The inevitable health difficulties notwithstanding, I am enjoying life very much and feel very fortunate. My days are sustained by friendship and love, and I am still learning new things at least as fast as I forget old ones.

May we all go on seizing the days as they come, and making the most of them!
